LEARN TO DJ NOW

Learn to DJ Now

Out of all the DJ videos we watched, this series was the best. The videos are packed with crystal clear close up examples of basic DJ skills like how to beatmatch, plus more advanced things like scratching techniques, mixing tips, and more. The videos are really easy to follow, with very simple instructions so you can follow along at home.

There are two different volumes you get with this DJ video series, Volume 1 teaches the basics, like beatmatching and mixing, while Volume 2 goes into many different scratching techniques. The videos are a little more expensive than other ones, but are well worth the price. Like that old saying goes, “you get what you pay for”. You get a lot with these DJ videos!

TURNTABLE TECHNIQUE

turntabletechnique

This DJ video is done by Stephen Weber, a professor at the Berkeley school of music. He really knows his stuff. This DJ video is more for new DJs who have never used turntables before. Not really for the intermediate DJ. But still really good stuff, from someone who is a pro.

In the section on creative mixing, he shows many ways to combine two records. He even takes the snare from one record, or just a horn section, and flies them in over the other record. This got me thinking in totally new ways about my mixes. There is a lot of info about setting up DJ equipment that you can get from the owners manuals, but the scratching stuff is also very clear and well done. Overall a very good DJ video.

QBERT’S “DO IT YOURSELF”

Qbert's Do it Yourself

This is a really good DJ video on scratching techniques. It covers scratching for beginners, but you quickly learn a lot of great information that you can put to use right away. This DVD gives a very good introduction to all the basic scratching techniques. The multiple camera angles are great.

Qbert’s personality makes this fun to work with. He doesn’t try to drop jargon or come off as some kind of hipster. No bragging about being one of the world’s best DJs (although he is.) His style is very casual and conversational – it feels like you’re hanging out with him at his house on a saturday afternoon. This is a perfect DJ video on basic scratching skills, and a great add to any DJs video library.
